Its a fake as fake can be. You answered your own question there. People are buying it because they are new like yourself and trust the seller when he is just trying to sell a dud. Please dont buy from ioffer or Ebay when you start as they really are a dumping ground for crud!

Best advice is to do some research before you take the plunge and buy. Have a read of the forums and check out the pictures of the original lids people have posted. Dont be afraid to ask questions, we are hear to help.

Maybe the shell is real, but decals are both fake, paint is post war.

Some people buy them, because they know no better.

Don't look for SS helmets/items on Ebay, Ioffer and so forth! It's just not worth the time and effort IMHO... Sorry for being a little harsh here, but if you can't tell by yourself this is a fake, you might want to buy your SS lids from people that are trusted and know what they are doing.

There's nothing cool about this lid.
