Re: Reichsfuhrer SS Staff - DD SS Q M35
Usually all the DD lids I seen, was allways re-issued in the mid war, and it's hard to find a good example with the first factory paint and decals

Re: Reichsfuhrer SS Staff - DD SS Q M35
Those large white runes on the helmet would have acted like a homing beacon for Allied bullets. I have no doubt that they were post war added.

Certainly not something that I've seen before.....I doubt these would have been "issued" for wear that way. I agree that we're probably looking at postwar application.

Re: Reichsfuhrer SS Staff - DD SS Q M35
Without a good closeup of the hand rendered runes it is impossible to give the hand rendered runes a period "thumbs up" I am afraid. I find it unlikely in the extreme that the Dutch volunteer SS units would paint large runes on the sides of thier helmets and more likely it was painted postwar to jack the value of a helmet.

Doug, this is a lovely helmet.(The thread starter) One of many you own I guess. I just saw a picture of you with Dave Shirlin. Its good to put a face to the name. I often wonder what the other collectors on forums look like... maybe its time for a 'Me with my best helmet Thread'? I almost believe that John Brandon actually looks like Heinrich Himmler ( no offence John )

Check out the show us your faces thread on GHW, lots of faces you can put to names there! Thanks for the compliment on this fine helmet. Cheers
