Hey snake, Is the lid wet or coated with sumfin?
Either way the decal looks good to me - hard to fake that sort of rust. I think I can see the original sand finish poking through the left hand rune!!??

I agree with you Dan, hard to replicate that kind of rust. Just wish it was a straight on shot, on lube on the lid and no reflection to see it properly. Would love to see it better before I decide though.

Hi Dan, Jase, Yes hard to fake that rust but nothing would surprise me, and yes the seller has coated it with linseed oil to stop the rust, so he said. better pics would help with no oil but that's the best iv'e got.
Cheers, Phill
Hard to come to a conclusion as the heavy coating is obstructing the view of the decal IMO. Thanks for sharing.

If he just applied the oil, a couple days will show a duller finish and so , a better image of the decal IMO. Its safe to say the degree of rust and bubbling would tell it's orig. but like you said,"you never know"
Linseed oil..... Way too much.....hopefully it will fade out a bit
I'd love to have a relic lid like that! I've actually been searching for something similar. I hope it turns out good! Nice find!
New pics will be needed for sure. Even without the oil the close up is not good enough IMO. Strange he oils it up for protection, then put it up for sale. Is the really the only series of pics this guy has of his relic SS lid.....? Hope it's a good one though.
Regards, Lars
