Doug i'm a great lover of whitewashed camos myself and have owned a few mostly Heer and Luftwaffe but this is one of the most superb examples i have seen and to have the bonus of being able to research the helmet a rare thing itself in a combat helmet makes it almost unique.
Many thanks for posting a helmet i'm sure we would all aspire to own,
best regards
Paul

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
What they all said! Superb. Jim G.
Thanks for the compliments and kind words gents.
Doug-
What a magnificent piece! In my many years collecting, I have never had the opportunity to handle such a gem. I have noticed that many camoflage helmets have the owner's name written in the helmet skirt in white paint. I feel this was done when a unit had their helmets painted enmasse. Those helmets without a name may likely have had field applied paint. Your thoughts on this?

LIFE'S LOSERS NEVER LEARN FROM THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS.
Bob, that is as good as explanation as any. A fellow collector who goes by Narvik on the other fora has an exact twin KM M40 camo to one I own, and the handwriting in the skirt is identical and the same implement was used. I have also seen names penciled into liners and skirts, and other colors of paint used like red and green as well. Thanks for the compliments Bob et al.
Like I said, Doug, my dream helmet is a single decal SS M42 with a nice whitewash and shiny EF decal.
Maybe one day I will save your life or something and give me that one favor people give when their lives are saved. Then maybe I can have in on my shelf one day? haha
I have one like this but I don't think it is SS.
