What a scumbag. This, however, is the exact scenario I thought of when it was suggested the mods should police the for sale section. While this would help to weed out the items that are not authentic, it would not help if the individual posted photos of authentic items that were not his. The items would pass muster, however the seller would collect the money and dissapear.

USMF has a 50 substantial post restriction before you can sell. And by substantial, the posts can't just be simple responses like, "Nice find" or "I like that helmet". This has worked very well there. I also agree that members need to police the for sale section as has already been stated, the mods have lives outside of the forum.

Lastly, another idea, also borrowed from USMF, is having a feedback forum where buyers and sellers can post their feedback about completed sales. This allows a potential buyer or seller to check on how the person they are dealing with handled previous transactions, much like EBay.

At the end of the day, anything that is implemented would not make the for sale section infallible, but could certainly help to mitigate the risk.

In That incident, he was said to be living in Greece. In This new one, I see he is listed as Romania. I wonder just where he Does live.

Most likely the same person, the descriptions are the same word for word and it would make sense he came back here under another name and from another part of the world as his 'Nikoslira' identity was banned.

It seems 'his' auctions are now closed. unfortunately any comments have been removed too.

I don't think it is possible for a handful of moderators to be able to prevent every scammer from posting adds on the site. That would take 24 hours surveillance, 7 days a week. A scammer can post and "sell" an item within minutes. If you want my advice on how to keep from getting scammed, I would say never buy anything unless from a trusted source (friend/dealer) or a private sell through PayPal. I use to buy on Craig's List, but after dodging two scam attempts, I have learned my lesson. One was a fake check sent to me when I was trying to sell some stuff, another was a trade in which I was to mail off my laptop to a guy in trade for 3 German helmets.

I think it would be a good idea to start a thread about Scam experiences. Perhaps members could post full conversations they had with a scammer, give advice on certain signs to look for (no paypal, unusual background story, etc), and maybe share their own stories of how they got scammed. Perhaps knowledge gained from such a thread would save at least 1 person from learning a hard lesson. We would of course have to be very careful of what would be added into the thread, as not to give scammers new ideas.

Here is part of the Warning page on U.S.A. Craig's List when it comes to buying and selling. Some very helpful information.

You can sidestep would-be scammers by following these common-sense rules whenever using craigslist:
    1. NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is likely a scammer.
    2. FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.
    3. NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
    4. AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL "GUARANTEE" YOUR TRANSACTION.
