Hi, just photographed my proper combat used SS M42 in the "storage box" set up! I hope you can see the close up of the "gravel blast" or alike that has left a unique impact mark across the paint work. An un-marked chinstrap, but the band is dated 1943. Doug used to own "brothers" on either side of this one's lot number. A completely un-messed with helmet since wars end. Leon.

Reason being, my M42 lufty exibits the same type of marking ( I'll show you both today if the sun emerges )

Hi Dan, for me it is a "gravel blast" as the marks are traveling in the same directions across the skirt area and up over to the dome. You would need a lot of small objects to scape away at the paint work like that and get into the "curve" of the steel. Leon.
