    Doug,

From a Very reputable uk based dealer, have written receipt to cover
It and told return wouldn't be a problem if unhappy and justified if
case for it being wrong was valid! Will definately let them know
the outcome either way to see what they think as if it's wrong
It's probably a genuine mistake that I hope can be resolved as
The dealer is very amicable and professional in as far as I've had dealings
    With them.

Was happy with it till listed here, had it
a while and read something that made me post pics for you guys to view.

Will upload some macro pics of areas ASAP.

Here's hoping and now praying for a good outcome!

    Cheers
    Matt

    Hi guys,

Some more pictures of decal althought struggling to get any closer
    with current camera!

gonna try and get hold of a camera with a better macro setting.

The left lower rune has taken a knock at the bottom of the kick back on the S which has distorted it slighty I think but Im probably wrong!

All the borders of the decal measure approx 2mm although some are slightly worn away.

    Cheers again all,

    Matt

Yes unfortunately the close-ups are not sharp which makes them quite useless , mind you to get good close-ups you don't need to have the lens pressed to the helmet. A distance of 10 cm is adequate. Too close and your photos will also blurr.
The zooming in can be done with the photo software then. (PS never use the zoom either)

A border thickness of 2 mm is double of what I measure so that is reason for concern.

Sorry, dont know why I put 2mm. The border
Actually measures 1mm. Will try again with
The pics of decal and will include tape for
    Scale tomorrow.

    Thanks for reply

The closeups do help me immensely. What I was seeing as "wavy" print lines on the center horizontal section appears to be damage and the contour of the rough finish causing some distortion to the decal. The pulver is less grainy than the other photos and the border does appear to be correct.

That being said take the photo from about 10 cm away as Frank says, any closer and you "fisheye" the decal. Lose the flash glare, take it outside or where natural light can reach it. As you are finding out photos can make or break an SS helmet.

But I give it a lot more credence than with the first set of photos, but better photos are needed.

    Ok, thanks Doug.

until I took the picture yesterday :-/

Heres attempt 3 with 5mp Camera on macro, no flash just
natural light outside and appros 12inches from decal resting on book.

Have tried to zoom in with basic photos software on one to see if it helps.

    Hope it does.

    Thanks,

Much better photos thanks! I am pleased to withdraw my earlier opinion, these photos show the decal much more clearly and this thread really illustrates the need for as high quality photos as possible when asking for opinions, especially on SS decals.

I like this much better and happy my initial fears were wrong!

It's a thread like this that shows where there are diverging opinions we are not afraid to investigate further. Thanks for the efforts on showing the better photos and I apologize if I kept you up with any sleepless nights. ;-).

Btw what is the liner band date on this, if it can be read?

    Cheers
    Doug

    Doug,

No problem, thanks for your persistence, really pleased
Your happy with the decal and helmet.
Learnt a lot more and will be very careful adding
To my helmet collection as I've acquired a
Few grey hairs with this one.
Forum is excellent and always prepared
For bad news in this hobby!
Will have another look at liner at let you know.
It's a size 55 but the date is very hard to read.

So the outcome is a period EF shell with ET decal do you think?

Thanks again to everyone on this one.
    Matt

I'm comfortable enough without an in hand (but with the new pics) agreeing with Jim and Frank that it's a period EF M42 with a factory applied ET runic decal. Once again sorry for the grey hairs Matt but with the preponderance of fakes the devil is in the details. So much so that as Frank said magnification us the way to go and I've been doing that for years now, in the absence really good photos are simply a must.
