SS M42 for review

Article about: It's tough to determine the finish of this helmet via photos. It should be the same finish as the ET M40s. ET started using a different paint when they started coding their helmets 'ckl'.

Brian, I don't recall ever seeing an ET stamped M42 with an ET pattern decal. I don't think a batch were ever issued to the SS. I'm leaning towards that happening instead of the Russian front theory. Let's wait to see what Doug and Kelly thinks.

Yeah Sam, having to agree with your imput. Not looking like the real deal. I bet Doug agrees with the consensus.

    3 red flags.

    1. Pocher decal on an M42.
    2. ET M42 do not have any factory SS decaled helmets that I am aware.
    3. The treated area around the decal.

Oh and did I mention the Pocher decal is a fake?

Re- the Russian front theory, the helmets that went to the Russian front didn't evaporate into a black hole post war. There are thousands that come from the former eastern block including a bazillion relics. No ET SS M42 helmets yet.

Had a better look on it today.

Not sure its a ET66, it could also be EF6.. or something. Really hard to see clearly.
Maybe some of you can determine which one it is.
    Also some close-ups from decal.

A messed with helmet with a fake decal and a later installed liner , I would not put more time in investigating this further as the collector value is zero.

Hi Allan , it looks as though a shield was scratched off from this one to me so I would guess it was a single decal HEER helmet at some point. A shame it was not left alone as it would have been a nice helmet. Leon.
