Hi again everyone - I've been looking at this helmet again recently and I'm suspecting it might have once been a camo. My reasons for believing this - it's an M35, and on the interior of the helmet you can see the original apple green paint, but the exterior is a much darker, matt green with stones + twigs mixed into it, actually covering one of the decals. Additionally at certain points you can see a reddish brownish paint mixed in which doesn't match the colour of the rust. I'll attach some close up pictures, hopefully someone else has more of an idea than I do!
Thanks,
Robbie
It's hard to see, but just above the air vent is a hue of completely different paint to the rest of the shell, and dotted around the rest of the shell are patches of the same orangey-brown colour. The sticks and stones in the paint might mean it was field painted...? I'm not very clued-in on camouflaging traits.
I think the right decal is a tricolor party shield. At the right bottom you can see the red color. So that would say it's a M35 DD Heer.
I'm another one who votes for a tricolour.
With my eyes and my computer screen I can see the white diagonal centre band too!!
