Firstly this one has a museum tag, which explains that this is the trophee of the red army and where this one was taked, the second: take a care look at the 3-rd picture, there is visible SS decal underneath of a white camo

Soviet soldier cannot take the war trophees to the home by soviet laws, and also till the mid of 90's the trophees like that was usually thrown over the forests as a garbage. Sometimes I walking in the forest, and still can be found different items from the war. Later I will add some pictures in the Battlefield archeology area about that stuff

I know that in irakwar and desert storm that the us soldier could keep his warsouvenirs.
    That is enemy uniform,helmets,barets,bayonets.
They have to fill in a form and ask perrmission from commander.
Not allowed are the rest of the items.
    So only uniforms,helmets,caps,barets,badges,knives,bayonet s.

I was an infantryman over there in 2003, and no forms were needed. Do you want to buy one of my "Darth Vadar" Fedayeen helmets? I have two I found early in the invasion of 2003.

And when i was there we got charged if we were found with anything! and searched from top to toe.

My father once told me a story of when he came back to England at the end of WW2, As they docked at Southampton they were told that if they were found with ANY souvenirs, they would be in serious trouble, consequently everything was thrown over the side of the ship. He always said......... when i was a young pup, and interested in all things about war......... "just dredge the entrance to Southampton son, you'll find everything you want"

some one once said (i Don't know who it was)

A Frenchman fights for his country
    An Englishman for his honour
    And an American for souvenirs

    Anyone every read "war booty"

I'm not sure what country you're from, but we could take anything back as long as it wasn't a machine gun or some sort of explosive. We could take back bolt action rifles with a filled out document even. Maybe it's because we have more freedom with our government, it's not a big deal in the United States at least.

Why would they charged you with taking back harmless souvenirs?
