Winter ss helmet real or fake?

Hi everyone,

I am a new collector and member of this forum and was wondering if I could an opinion if this helmet is authenic or not. I have included pictures with I hope will work. Any replies are greatly appreciated. If you need larder pictures I can email them to you.

Sadly, this is a fake helmet. The paintwork and decal are modern.

Hi, welcome to the forum; but this helmet is a real fake!!!!
It has liner, rivets and leather completly remounted; decal is a copy and it's modern repainted!
Save your money!!

That really depends on the cost of it and how much you want to spend , it's probably better to save your money for a good one but as we all know that will cost a lot of money.

When the helmet arrives I will post close up pics of the runes decal and the helmet itself. I am more inclined to believe it may be real given the story of how it was found and the items that were found with it. The gentlemen who sold to me, tells me that he and his father were cleaning away a new property that had just bought which included a barn. Inside the barn in between two walls the helmet, an wehrmacht winter parka, ss cap, bread bag, reichsmarks, and nsdap pin were found. I understand that whitewash does have a tendency to turn brown but I remember a "chimunk pattern" camouflage that did not turn brown.

There's an adage in collecting " buy the article not the story " , many have fakes have been bought on the back of an old barn story !!! This helmet shows no sign of having been stuck in an old barn between two walls for 65 years !!
