Hi adrian, really nice and unique cross you got there~~
but why the texture on each side of the center core looks different?

I can only think that the core is made in two halves and each half was finished differently, put into stock and them assembled at a later date. The worker picked a front and back half, assembled the cross and didn't pay much attention to the finish of the two pieces.

great, is it heavy?

I don't know the exact weight but there is no discernable difference between this and any other cross.
