I wonder what secret it was that W&L had that allowed their crosses to survive the ravages of time in mint/near mint condition today compared to all other makers?

They appear to be singular in this respect to me anyway.

    Regards, Ned.

It was their unique frosting process Ned . A trade secret I believe. Brehmer used something similar.

    Nice cross Lengies

Yes, the secret is in the technique Brehmer and Wachtler & Lange used in the way they frosted their crosses. The rhodium finish adhered to and out lasted their rival makers.
