    What's the give-away?

Just want to improve my ability to spot the junk.

Fabri is right, a fake. It was made by Floch. The giveaway features are the date and the reverse hardware, both are classic Floch features. The needle is refered to as the 'B' type, there was obviously an 'A' type but slightly different. The distingushing feature of this needle is the small nick on the top on the left, see below.
The date style is unlike anything found on original EKs, especially the '3'. Note also how low the date is set, almost touching the beading on the lower arm. This can be found on genuine EKs but combine the features I've mentioned above and you will have a Floch fake.

As Adrian says its a 'textbook' Floch.

It is worth studying Floch fakes, there is plenty of info about

Agreed, do a forum search. It is worth the research as this guy made very good reproductions, but once you know how to spot them you'll be fine.
