It's a Souval but that rust looks very fresh. I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't a fake with artificial ageing.

Even now I'm not convinced the rust hasn't been added to give the impression of age despite the fact there is no need. Either way I am very suspicious of it.

As far as value goes I wouldn't pay very much. EK1s are common and can be found in better condition. Maybe $100 - $150 to give a very broad estimate taking into consideration the suspicious condition.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Not one I would have in my collection because of the reasons Adrian states

this thing could have been stored somewhere where it was recently (or not so recently but chronically) exposed to heavy moisture or water.

still, i view this cross as Adrian does.

i looked at it yesterday and was distracted from providing comment, but on first seeing it my impression was exactly as Adrian's: i had to really look at it closer than i'd normally feel necessary because of that rust.

i just don't think it's a desirable feature of this cross.

Because I have classic symptoms of a horder, the seller will let it go for $75. Any other opinions about originality?

Bright orange rust=new rust. And it's a Souval....a double whammy. No thanks!

I probably should abstain from acquiring it. It is from the south of the US where the Katrina kicked the door in. Thanks for the advice.

That would probably explain the rust.......

Even so, this cross-whether it actually Is genuine or not-has basically been ruined, and as such, I, personally, would pass on it altogether.
