Hello everybody, I'm a starting collector and I just bought an EK 2 Klasse. Can you guys check out if it's an original one?
I've already checked if the core is magnetic, and it is.
Can you also look at the ribbon please?

If you need more pics just let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

Chessmaster, from the photographs above you EK II looks to be fine, it should be constructed of 3 pieces, and the centre magnetic, (although one piece stamped versions did exist, as did non-magnetic cores !) the ribbon looks to be a replacement, i base that comment on the colour red, TR red was more 'orange' in colour. Are there any marks, letters or numbers on the ribbon suspension ring, if so a maker could be identified.

That is a much better photo of the ribbon,The colour on that one is correct !....a little pointer for future refrence, if you take a bit of loose thread from the ribbon, burn it....if it shrivels up its nylon, fake, if it burns to ash it is probably geniune as it is cotton based, you can also use the UV backlight test that shows modern material to glow under the light, BUT there are replacement/repro ribbons coming from Germany that are UV negative & cotton based, then i personally use the colour test guide obtained through experience.....Who really knows who put what on where, when !

    Hi Chessmaster,

Your cross is a very nice and genuine unmarked Klein & Quenzer (65).
....And it probably will not be your last!
