Hi Chessmaster,
Each EK2 displays certain characteristics, some of which can be matched to known marked examples (ie. die flaws to the frame and styles of dates and swastika on the core). The '3's on Klein & Quenzer crosses are quite distinctive - note the difference in the 3 in 1939 and the 3 in 1813. (It should also be noted that K&Q used more than one core type with differing numerals!). The swastika on K&Q crosses also has a slight 'domed' look.
You eventually get used to the differences and can begin to identify makers by these methods.
