No, it refers to the actual 'arms' of the cross, the edges have minimal curvature.

The "3" mentioned in the first post, sorry, but is that indicating the three in the dates of the cross or a makers mark
That would be the '3' in the dates. These crosses are always unmarked. (At least none have been found marked thus far.)
