Is the "straight arm" in reference to the way the No 3 is styled???

No, it refers to the actual 'arms' of the cross, the edges have minimal curvature.

Thanks, I would never have picked that up, I suppose I'd need to see a side by side for my untrained eye to pick that up....

The "3" mentioned in the first post, sorry, but is that indicating the three in the dates of the cross or a makers mark

That would be the '3' in the dates. These crosses are always unmarked. (At least none have been found marked thus far.)
