Here's a few common fakes to be aware of.
(Adrian - I cannot work out how to add to the Iron Cross Fakes Database, perhaps you could move the thread for me?) Thanks!

First off, one of the infamous Floch fakes, this one is stamped '5' on the ring. Also found marked '49' and unmarked.

    And the '333' fake.
Also found unmarked and marked '666'.

Details shown below main picture are of features found
on these crosses to help identify the unmarked versions.
Note also, the missing chunk from the top right corner of
the second '1' in the 1813 date.

    Thanks for showing these examples!

Why would fakers use maker marks of 333 and 666 ?

Were there genuine makers of this number? If so I have never seen them listed.

Great job Danny, thank you for posting these, I've added a link in the database.
Have you got any measurements for the fake Ubergrosse?

I wish I knew the answer to the first question but at least it helps identify them! These fakes can also be found unmarked so use the cross features to identify them and not just the spurious makers marks.
There aren't any known makers with either of these numbers.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    Adrian,
As far as I can remember, these were the famous Latvian RK's that a new use was found for. It had the same 48 x 48mm measurement as the RK, but with no trace of interference, so these were made this way by the faker and not re-worked afterwards.

Here's another fake EK2. Note the makers mark stamped over the join in the ribbon ring and the thicker than normal suspension ring.
Other identifying features to look out for are the dates and the beading on the inner corners next to the swastika.

Hi Nick, the "666" mark was put there as a "joke" (As we all know, 666 is the biblical Mark of the Beast in Revelations in the Bible.) After the "joke" became known, the changed it to 333. Half beast....

    Cheers, Ade.
