The cross was discussed on another forum, but had mixed reviews L/18 with fake stamped maker marks?
The cross is a Mayer and should be marked '26' or 'L/18'.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Adrian is correct...The needle set-up is characteristic for B.H.Mayer...Here is my unmarked cross by this same maker.
Thanks for the replies guys, so a perfectly good cross vandalised.
Cheers

That is true adrian, tho i think ill wait for a properly marked cross.
But if anyone else likes it, the cross is already quite cheap and the seller seems keen.
Just pm for details

Hello there,
There is nothing wrong with this cross. There is a theory that Schickle and Petz & Lorenz both gave their stock up in 1941 and that BH Mayer received some of it. If this theory is true, why couldn't Godet have? Let me emphasize my point, here's a textbook P&L cross (notice the Schickle style catch....) but this one is marked L/18 on the reverse pin. Fits into the theory that after P&L stopped produced Third Reich awards, their stock went to different LDO contractors. So.....who is to say that BH Mayer actually produced the cross that started the thread, perhaps it was resold by Godet, who added their mark.
I would buy the cross that started the thread in a heartbeat.
William Kramer
That's a lot of perhapses, what ifs and theories William!
However the main thing is that the makers mark does not match any known and accepted wartime Godet style......
