This Iron Cross of first war is real ? or fake .Centre of iron is brass .What factory made him?
hi,it is should be a fake one
HI jacob
because Centre of iron is brass .
I have 4 ww1 2nd iron crosses (diffencet maker's mark) and 1 ww2 2nd iron cross (maker's mark is 800),they are all not brass centre. The magnetic center is realy.
and also that one no marker's mark.
I'm not expert, but the Navy iron cross from WW2 is brass center, maby it from the navy WW1, and not all medal has Maker's mark.
Hi guys. What you say is not entirely correct. Although most crosses have a iron core, there were some made with brass cores. These are however not KM crosses as everyone thinks.

I concur with StuG III, further more the cross shown is 100% genuine, late war or possibly a 1920's replacment piece, as it was more likely that these pieces would of been manufactured during that period, with reinforced pin & catch mountings,non-magnetic centres and 'horror of horrors!' stamped in one piece,(although all these traits were done during the Great War !) so the 'rule of the thumb' prognosis can be thrown out of the window, this is one of the reasons why a 'standard' was introduced during the Third Reich period, i.e. LDO etc. Collecting 'Imperial EK's' can be both confusing and a potential minefield. i encourage members to post/visit the thread on 'Imperial EK's' in the Imperial German section.
