This is not one of the accepted pre 45 crosses. It wants to be an S&L, but is not.

Even from these photos it is as Wolgang says not an original S and L , the detail and finish is not correct.

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Is this a Souval made piece?
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
This is the one currently on Proxibid, and as the others have already stated, it is not a wartime cross.
Not a Souval either, but a nice copy all the same.
The blurb hints that it is not a 'proper' cross, but manages to avoid calling it a copy.
WWII German Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross. Cross and suspension loop are marked ''800'' for silver content, three-piece construction with iron magnetic center, with tailor modified ribbon for wear with uniform collar shirt. Center black painted portion shows lightly textured flat black finish; center swastika is fractionally higher than silver reeded edges. Typical of the type worn daily by recipients and not of the actual boxed and documented variety. Condition is excellent showing just light overall patination. Est.: $800-$1,200.
Must be a small hint, I can't see it.
Thanks Guys for the replies at least I did not bid on it!
"Typical of the type worn daily by recipients and not of the actual boxed and documented variety", I think its hinted at by this statement.
SOLD for $1,900!
