    Default Over sized Iron Cross

A few months ago I bought a set of iron crosses from a friend of mine. One 2nd class was a bit larger in size than all the rest. I know its not a modern repro cause we know the guy who brought it back. As much as i have heard from others is that it might have been a knights cross simply used to make a second class. I'll post pics as soon as i can, but has anyone ever heard of that?

    Welcome to the forum!

What you have is quite a scarce and sought after early "Ubergrosse" or "oversized" Iron cross 2nd class.

These will measure around 46.98mm to 47.03 mm.

The true origins behind these oversize crosses is not known, the only point about which collectors agree on is that they are early production.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thumbs up Re: Over sized Iron Cross

    Hi all,
Excuse me gentlemen for i think that it's a Knight's Cross Of The Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) !

The Knight's Cross Of The Iron Cross is LARGER in size than the regular Iron Cross, please refer to Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

I would say its not a knights cross as the ring at the top is different for a start

Welcome to the forum, however you are completely wrong. Please refer to my answer given earlier. This is a "Ubergrosse" or "oversized" Iron cross 2nd class.

The RK has a different ring as already pointed out and is a different size.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Right you are!
And as we see it now ;it is a EK II.
...But first they make the cross...and then they put the ring to the cross.
So if it was made to be a RK with out a ring or even with a ring, but then ordered to become an EKII....
