I would also suggest the Totenkopf collar tabs could do with a closer look, the piping on both sets looks very wrong.

Get back there and take more photos!!!!!

Indeed - on the whole, most of the 'lesser' or more common medals
look pretty good - from what I'm able to make out at first glance.

If he wants to sell the medals, it will be necessary to take them out of the frames and photograph each one in detail. When I hear a KC with diamonds, my first reaction is that of a skeptic. I hope for his sake they are all good. Even today, people collect items for what they purport to be. That is not necessarily always the case that they are.

Got to agree with Bob to have two sets of RK with diamonds when only 27 were awarded would be quite remarkable and brings out the skeptic in me as well !!

I can def agree with all of you! I will talk to him and TRY not to sound disrespectful. The medals are not currently for sale but I still would like to get a close look at them. Years ago, I would have been Happy to pay 70,000E and I Still couldn't find an issued piece. The closest I ever found was a jewelers wearing copy with genuine diamonds, and the owner wanted 45K US for it. I passed. As far as I'm concerned, a copy is a copy.
And, actually, the VC is easier to find than a Oaks,swords and diamonds. At least they come up for auction every now and then. Still horribly expensive, but they're there. Good luck, by the way, Dean. Nobody Ever wants to hear that the center piece to their treasured collection is bad. Inevitably, they will be outraged and take it personal! And half the time, they won't believe it Anyway.
