The curvature of the cross is known as ‘vaulting’ and as Jim states either vaulted at factory or by the owner, usually to fit more snugly to the tunic

Jim , since this is a one pc cross ( no frame ) no lifting at inside corners correct ? Personally I have never handled a 1 pc original cross 1st or 2nd class but understand they do exist .
