This may be him, Dietrich Wolter

    Leutnant d.R. Unit: 6./Lehr-Regiment "Brandenburg" zbV 800 Awarded on: March 12th, 1942
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.

But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

    Cheers, Paul,

I have found him Dietrich Wolter! His obit has Deiter but I think now that that is probably the less formal family name as the WP has Deitrich.

Am I right in thinking an officers WP from Brandenburgers is quite rare?

Any WP/SB to a Brandenburger is rare, let alone one to a Deutsche Kreuz in Gold winner. I know of one other on sale at the moment and the asking price is approx 1500 Euros and that isn't to a DKiG winner.

Dietrich Wolter was KIA in the Crimea where he is buried.

His entry on the Volksbund database:

    Nachname: Wolter
    Vorname: Dietrich
    Dienstgrad: Leutnant
    Geburtsdatum: 16.08.1917
    Geburtsort: Ciemar
    Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 09.05.1942
    Todes-/Vermisstenort: H.V.Pl. Sankp.2/28 in Feodossija

Dietrich Wolter ist vermutlich als unbekannter Soldat auf die Kriegsgräberstätte in Sewastopol - Sammelfriedhof (Ukraine) überführt worden.

There are other Brandenburger Soldbucher/Wehrpasses out there on the market for a couple of hundred Euros but they all tend to be what I call the late war barrel scraping types where the need for men saw poorly trained recruits, Luftwaffe ground crew etc sent to the units. But this appears to be a full on Brandenburger so to speak, as is the one I referred to in my other post - and as such it is a fantastic find. No doubt you will receive a few PM's asking to buy it (but not from me - way out of my budget means unfortunately!)
Here is a book about them...
The Brandenburger Commandos: Germany's Elite Warrior Spies in WWII Stackpole Military History: Amazon.co.uk: Franz Kurowski: Books

Much sought after and much harder to find than Waffen-SS Wehrpasses. If that stall holder ever finds out what he let go for a relatively cheap price he will be kicking himself.

    Guys,

Thanks for the info, I suppose it is difficult to find out for what action DKG was awarded? Its not like RK?

That is a lot of money for a bit of paper!

I would like to find out more about him but I suppose the record ends as is or is there anything in the Bundes Archive that they will allow you to look at?

You can always try and send an information request to the WASt. They usually only deal with Next Of Kin but at the end of the day you don't know if you don't try and if you get nowhere with them then all you have wasted is a stamp.

There may be something in the book about the fighting in the area where he was killed. I am sure I have that book somewhere but I can't locate it.
Maybe his files are at NARA in the USA? If his files still exist then they might well include the recommendation for his Deutsche Kreuz in Gold.
