Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
Gren Regt 2 were involved in heavy fighting in both the Putki and Sirgala areas as the Russians attempted to expand their bridgehead from Krivasoo , the Germans called it the Auwere Bridgehead an area which is heavily forested but also contains large swamp areas , i have been there many times and the debris of Battle and the closeness of the combat is still clearly visible.
cheers

Thanks for the additional information, it is much appreciated. I have the book Face Of Courage which covers the RK/NKSiG winners so have access to images of Dutter.
An excellent book and great reference.

And I see that Stackpole are re-publishing it. I doubt the image quality will be the same as the original but for £11 you can't really complain about that as it is a bit of a bargain.
Think its easy to over look such a Thread, To see Two, CCIS nicely filled out Soldbuch on one thread is a First for me! I'm unsure of the Actual Numbers of these Awards being isued(?) No it was not that Common award, doubt many of these SB survived, Is that the End of the Connection with these Men's surnames? I'm sure this Thread will Resurface again and again with time due to the Topic, and information It could hold for others.
