Hi folks, a medics group. Franz Fischer served with San Komp (mot.). Part of Inf. Reg 314 & 456. Awarded the KVK2 w/s & Ost medal. Saw a lot of action looking at the battle entries. Not frontline, but nice none the less. Stewy

From what I'm able to decipher, the man was killed on 11 June 44 and buried near Orscha/Witebsk...I'm unable to decipher the cause of death, hopefully someone else can help with the doctor's entry on page 34...
It also mentions that he should mainly be be utilized as "Beschlagsschmied"- Horseshoe-Blacksmith...His secondary task is "MG Schuetze"- Machine-Gunner...

Thanks Glenn, makes sense about the blacksmith. As you can see from page 12, he spent a good 6 months with Vet Komp. 256. Regards, Stewy

It was death by drowning ["Ertrinken"].

It also says he is buried in a military cemetery by a lake, by the way.

I have trouble reading the name of the lake, though; it looks like "Strschnosee" ["Lake Strzhno"] or something very similiar.

The cemetery is located east of the Orscha - Witebsk road ["östl. Strasse Orscha - Witebsk"].
