This is interesting
That's the standard form documenting his taking the service oath.

I think this is a copy of his application letter/CV ?
His CV, yes. In addition to the biographical data I had posted above, it tells us that he went to school for eight years and then became a farmhand at 15 years of age (which was not unusual in those days). His parents had run their inn at Gnadendorf since 1939.
Johann was once a member of the Hitler Youth, but left it in 1939, because at that time there were "no particular activities" in the local HJ and for a lack of spare time due to his full-time job as a farmhand.
The final sentence of the CV is interesting, as it is a request to join the police (rather than the SS).

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Is it possible this guy was involved in the latter stages of the Battle of the Bulge, or in particular, Unternehmen Nordwind further south ?
Cheers
