One of my favourite Streifendienst sets. This is Major August Messthaler
Initisllay with the Streifendienst in Germany in Wehrkreis XIII, after untertaking an Army Streifendienst course he is posted to the Wehrmachtstreifendienst in the Southern Ukraine and finally Wehrmachtstreifengruppe z.b.V. 24 from 15 October 1944 to 21 May 1944. Note the end date of this posting is after the end of the war !
A WW1 combat veteran, he was already a Hauptmann by the outbreak of war
By July 1944 he had reached the rank of Major. With this rank he was almost certainly a unit commander.
Already holding the EK2 from WW1, he earned the Infantry Assault Badge, 1939 Bar to the 1914 EK2, EK1 and East Front Medal in WW2
The combat listings in the Wehrpass show that this guy certainly saw his fair share of action in both WW1 and WW2.
More
His Truppenausweis
Wearing his awards
And a lovely little extra. Tucked into the back of the Wehrpass was a letter from his son, serving in the Grossdeutschland Division, sending his father a nice photo in uniform.
