Re: Two SS Soldbuch - What is inside?
I am attaching better scans (black and white, Adobe file links) of the documents. I welcome any comments?

Re: Two SS Soldbuch - What is inside?
This is a huge question to be honest. I don't know how much you know about these?
The Soldbuch acted as a personal ID: it contained all personal details, next of kin, records of kit issued, weapons issued, wounds or hospital treatment, dates of leave over 5 days, awards, etc.
Both are, of course, nice original books and these are always sought after.
I particualy like the dual language edition German/Latvian version.
Cheers, Ade.

Re: Two SS Soldbuch - What is inside?
I am learning from this forum more about the content of these documents. What units were these soldiers members of? I gather the Latvian document shows this soldier was a "border guard". It seems that no photos were ever attached to these documents. The sample I've looked at here had photos.
I am curious about what is written on the last entry on page 11 of the Latvian document. Thanks...for the help.

Very, very, very nice!
From SS #1:
17SS PZ GR DIV
He was married and his wife appears as next of kin. He was a farmer (landarbeiter). Born 17 DEC 07 which made him 37 when captured! Served from 1 APR 44 (April Fools) to 8 MAY 45. He was issued a rifle on 1 APR 44 with serial # 8398. He was issued equipment three times in 1945, not sure why.

Re: Two SS Soldbuch - What is inside?
At the page 16 I'am wondered that he recieved the service money up to Oktober 1945. Even as POW the book was properly filled

Re: Two SS Soldbuch - What is inside?
The Area Control Form I believe was issued by the British Discharge Headquarters in Germany. That means he was a prisoner in my mind. It also shows what camp he was in but I can't read the information on it.
I'm not sure of the purpose of the release certificate dated 3 MAY 45.
Another document also shows his service ending on 8 MAY 45 but is dated 6 MAY 45.
The dates don't appear to match up very well on when his service ends. It does look like he was paid 30 marks on four times from JUL-OCT 45.
