About the last photo:
In my opinion it is one of the best photographs of the Russian campaign that I have. This is an enlarged section. It almost seems like the cover of an Ostfront book.
Best regards. It is the first time that, with the exception of my son Alex, I show someone these photographs from my collection. It is always a pleasure to discover other people who do not find our hobby strange.
I translate into English a fragment of a small work that I wrote on this subject a few years ago:
"The embers of that fire were fed and kept lit in the kitchen during the day, both to prepare the stew for the midday meal, and to maintain a hot water reserve with which to make coffee, substitute or tea again, at sunset.
If the distance or the tranquility of the front allowed it, a social life developed around the company's field kitchen, as it was the moment of the hot meal in which the men took the opportunity to talk, make exchanges and even receive and read the mail".
What do we have today for food?
WOW!! an army rely does march on it's stomach!!!
