Heer Oberschütze photo

I picked up this helmeted Heer portrait a while back and I was wondering if I am correct in that this would be an Oberschütze? Also, what color would his sleeve rank insignia be? Looks to me like either black or dark green but I think black was for the Waffen SS (?)... any thoughts appreciated!

You are correct on the rank. The insignia is on dark green badge cloth for Heer, which he is of course.

The Waffen SS wore it on a black backing.

Thank you, Ade --- that clears it up nicely! I'm thinking of getting a pip like this to display along with a Heer M40 and this pic, would this (below) be a good one? I see there's repros about and with these being of such simple construction I just want to make sure I get a good one ----

This is the type worn on the Waffenrock. Note it is in wire bullion thread. The one for the Feldbluse and Greatcoat was done in cotton.
