The photo of the NCO is really a tiny little pic. I wonder why they printed such photos. You need a magnifying glass to see it

The text on the reverse of the picture showing the burst shell in post # 214 says:
"Unser Rohrkrepierer. Sehr schön geworden"
meaning
"Our Rohrkrepierer. Turned out very pretty."
I am not that well versed in specialized ordnance-technical jargon, but as far as I know, the English translation for a "Rohrkrepierer" is a "barrel burst". Anyway, it describes an explosive shell that has prematurely detonated while still inside the barrel of a gun. (Which, of course, is a very dangerous event for the gun crew.)
Oh, and the men in black wearing those "weird hats" in post # 212 are miners in their traditional dress.
See here for some modern images:

Bergmann (auch Knappe genannt) in Ausgehuniform (Knappentracht). - Ronnenberg
Yup, HPL is correct. They are from the German Miners Association (wartime). The caps/uniforms are interesting. The young man with armband and kepi is not RAD, but SA. Also the other young man is a Hitler Jugend Musician holding a baby. Oh ya, sorry for the penciled writing....those are my personal side notes. haha. Sometimes when I buy photos, the place where the photo was taken is in the sellers title (some come from albums), but not written anywhere on the photo itself.....so I write it down (always in pencil).
p.s.- I never knew what that shell had written on it, thanks HPL. lol And, I know....sometimes its hard to see minor details in those wallet-sized photos until you scan them. I always wondered if the "Bahnhof Hotel" the army man is standing in front of....is still there and functioning??
Hello my friend. Thanks for your input. Weird hats until nowadays ha? Very cool
