New Photo Pick-Ups - Please Share

I understand that regulations of certain things changed throughout time, and obviously dont expect you to have to explain that to me. haha. But you have covered the basics, which in turn will help alot in understanding fututre photos/uniforms of the SA + SA medical Persons. Good to know the specialists patch was replaced by the metal Aesculapius insignia.

But please bear in mind that these collar devices, too, were not very long-lived and replaced in 1937 by a wole new series of cloth specialty insignia worn on the lower left sleeve, all bearing the "Life Rune". For simple illustrations of these, see here under "Insignia and badges": SA

Gotcha HPL. Thank You. I must say I like the older style Aesculapius better than the Tyr-rune version. I like that site alot, it has helped me alot in time of need. haha

Last one for tonight..... I think I was able to find another photo of the same Berlin Parade Ceremony that I have a Picture of that I bought a while back. It looks like the same parade to me.....or at least at the same location in Berlin.

Now you've got me; I cannot come up with a precise ID. A carryover from the state police days, but which state I cannot tell.

No; he is definitely a member of the DAF's Werkscharen.

I must say I like the older style Aesculapius better than the Tyr-rune version.

So do I.

Forgive me for nit-picking, though, but it is not a "Tyr" Rune. The "Tyr" or "Tiwaz" Rune is the Runic "T", i.e. the one looking similiar to a stylized arrow. (Used, among other usages, for the sleeve badge of Reichsführerschulen graduates.)

The "Life Rune" as used (not only) by SA medical personnel is also known as the "Man" Rune, "Algiz" Rune or "Elhaz" Rune.

One thing about this that I always found interesting: The Nazis chose to make this their "Medical / Health" symbol and put it to use in the insignia for medical personnel of the SA, the NSKK, the Hitler Youth... But, oddly, never the SS who always retained the traditional Aesculapius Rod for their medical personnel.

This building is the Neue Wache located by the Unter den Linden boulevard in Berlin. See:

This brings back old memories. When I went to Berlin in my last year of school way back in 1987, we watched the changing of the guards in front of that building. Of course, those being the pre-reunification days, we are talking about the East German National People's Army with their old-school Prussian ceremonial drill. Hello All,

This is a great thread that I am just now discovering! Long may it continue... I am not a photo collector per se, but I do collect DRK items and just picked-up this portrait photo of a DRK man that I would like to share. The photo is 9"x7" and is hand colorized with what I believe is the colorizer's company stamp marking on the reverse. It would appear the company name is "GACO." If anyone knows anything further on this company that would be interesting to me and of course any and all comments are welcome
