The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings

Yeah Paul, he certainly has "the swagger" for sure. And here we have a tired Soldat! geared up with Shovel, K98, and canteen! Fatigue at its best
Another morbid photo.....A KO'd Russian T-26 with 2 KIA crew members (that I can see). Just maybe... 1 member MIGHT have had a chance to get out alive! These light tanks usually had a 3-man Crew. 1 commander, 1 Driver, and 1 to man the Gun/s.
1st Panzer Division column in Russia (note single "X" divisional Symbol)
I found another portrait of this same man again! (#9) The red-headed Panzerman in the group portrait. This is the earliest pic I have of him. He is wearing Panzerjager boards here.
Later, you can see him wearing his Black Panzer Wrap. Also, a French tank in WH service.
