You are correct...the first pic posted is a MK. IV. It is officially known as a:
Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf D (Sd Kfz 161)
if you want to get technical.

The "D" designation is the model, hence the Ausf D.

BTW Ausf = Ausfuhrung or Model, Mark or Design.

There were 10 different models of the Pz Kpfw IV not including variants: Ausf A, B, C, D, E, F1, F2, G, H and J.

The name MK. IV is a general term used to describe this series of Panzers.
