The second a SS Polizei chap.
The second a SS Polizei chap.
Luckily both men had good handwriting; no problems this time!
Here we go; the first one says:
"Meiner lieben Schwägerin
Hanna
in dankbarem Gedenken
ihrer fürsorglichen Pflege.
Dein Hermann
23 XII - 8.I.43"
...meaning:
"To my dear sister-in-law
Hanna
in grateful memory
of her attentive care.
Your Hermann
23 Dec. - 8 Jan. 43"
The second one:
"Ein recht frohes Fest
wünscht Euch
Hans."
...meaning:
"Hans
wishes you
very Happy Holidays"
The GJ in Slovakia looks so tired. His face says it all: "Defeat".
Great job on these HPL.
Many thanks HPL2008, excellent service as usual,
Cheers,
Richard.
Hi Chaps & HPL2008, here's a new photos I picked up today. It's a bit dark; but you can see it's an officer wearing The German Cross. I'm guessing the background is somewhere in Italy.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Cheers,
Richard.
Does it say Commario Italian in pen?
It says:
"'Weihnachten 44'
Auf halber Höhe
des Kirchturms von
C.
Commacio [?] - Italien"
...meaning:
"'Christmas 44'
Halfway up
the steeple of
C.
Commacio [?] - Italy"
I am not 100 % certain on the name of the place, but it looks like "Commacio" to me. Problem is, I cannot find a "Commacio" in Italy, although it might be a misspelling. There is a town named Comacchio, and it even has a church that looks a lot like the one in the background of the photo (well, at least to me). See:

Brilliant work HPL2008 That's definitely the right town/church. You can see the round part of the church in my postcard. Thanks very much,
Cheers,
Richard.
