Hi Chaps & HPL2008, here's a new photos I picked up today. I really don't know what to make of this one.

    Are they HJ Helfer?

Why the insignia attached to the caps?

Hopefully it can be worked out where one of them died on 03/05/1945. Sadly the back of the card is blank.

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Cheers,

    Richard.

I'm afraid I can't be of much help with this one... The geographical designation is one of those cases where it all looks to me like one long zig-zag line.

No idea just who or what they are, either. My gut feeling, too, is that they are some kind of auxilliaries. (Could be Flak, although nothing points particularly in that direction.) Volkssturm is another possibility. In any case, the cap with the skull + rank pip is particularly odd.

Hi HPL2008, thanks for the reply. Sorry for my slow response; but oddly I didn't get an email for your reply & have just checked now. Hopefully that is a one off problem, Cheers, Richard.

    It says....:

    "Rekrutenkompanie
    Helchteren (Belgien)
    1941
    "

    ...i.e..:

    "Recruit Company
    Helchteren (Belgium)
    1941
    "

(Houthalen-Helchteren is a municipality in the Limburg province. See: Houthalen-Helchteren - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )

    This one says:

    "No. 220
    Joh. Tafelmayer
    An meine liebe
    Mami
    9.3.44
    "

    ...meaning...:

    "No. 220
    Joh. Tafelmayer
    To my dear
    Mommy
    9/3/44
    "

("Joh." is the abbreviation for the first name Johann.)
