To be honest, I doubt that Reichswehr privates were allowed to go home with their rifles and ammo... The photo was more likely taken at a military installation or during field exercises.
You're probably correct, sadly nothing on the back to tell. Of course this soldier would not get dressed for a home photo. Maybe taken to be sent home to his Elterns.
If he's proud, then he certainly doesn't look happy. Looks like he's been forced to pose for the photo.
