I find the winter photo with the soldiers wearing gasmasks shooting in the air interesting. I would say this is some type of training exercise. There does not appear to be a magazine in the MG34. Additionally it looks like them man behind the machine gun is wearing a white band around his helmet (hat?) like the reversible Red/White types used during war games.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

Thanks for sharing these photographs! A very impressive collection for sure. Especially interesting are the photos that capture the quiet times or the informal times, the things one seldom sees. Thanks again for sharing!

This photo had a duplicate, which had writing on the back (shown below):
It says:
"Zur Erinnerung

Sportfest
vom 4. - 6.8.39
Jüterbog - Altes Lager
Flieger-Technische Schule"
[As a memory

sports festival
on 4 - 6 Aug. 39
Jüterbog - the old camp

Looks like it. White cap bands were worn by the directors and umpires of military exercises/maneuvers.

Thanks HPL!!! I appreciate you bringing these writings into focus. It makes the photos become more than just a photo when you can glean the context from the writing. I wish I could read the handwriting more often, as I can run it through a translator and learn a little more German myself.

Very nice photos. I haven't been here in a while. Was unemployed for some time and got a new job.
So i've haven't been buying for a long time. I recently started again.
So you can expect to see some updates in my own photo thread.
