My thoughts exactly. Plus it looks like the lad could do with packing some 'Back up Britches' too.

It's from "Die Bruecke" The Bridge", the German postwar movie about a group of youngsters who are ordered to defend an insignificant bridge. It's on Youtube.

Gday gents,
I went in search of an image that showed the "gameface" from a different angle.The image was quite grainy and I thought it was period.I didn't realise it was from a movie.Thanks for clearing that up.
Still I shows the two extremes rather well.

Here's my offering.....
First one is a serious looking chap from the navy
and an Imperial ww1 shot of a young serious airman or cavalry man ? ...............a striking portait of him with a silk cap.
