This is an impressive picture and I´m sure, some guy´s of you know it well, am I right ?

It show´s an wounded Lieutenant of the Waffen-SS, taken as prisoner in Normandy.

Does anybody know´s more ´bout the circumstances, the pic was shot then, (date, place, and fate of this soldier) ?

Note the countenance of this man !

Very interesting, that an other captured soldier´s wearing an uniform of the Wehrmacht-Luftwaffe together with an SS-belt !

    Hi Reibert

    That is a great photo.

I would like to know who that Untersturmfuhrer is too! What an expression he has !

A very arrogant and defiant look about him. He obviously only posed for photos in profile!

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    @ Dave and Ade

This man is not your enemy, (nore he was then ...) !
This man was a soldier, and, believe me, I really don´t think, he was "posing" for the camera´s ! ...

Yes, this man was wearing the uniform of the Waffen-SS, but, do you really think, he was "better" or "worse" than other German soldier´s, (or some soldier´s they´re wearing british, american, french or russian uniform´s ?) ?

This Lieutenant surely "spent" some bitter year´s of fighting on the Western, (maybe also the Eastern ?), front.

Not every soldier, wearing the "double Sig-rune" on his collar, was a monster ...

The Grandpa of my "Ex" was also wearing the Waffen-SS uniform but I know, he don´t was a "lover of war" ...

Perhaps it is possible to find out who he/they are. From archives, the unit
and where these guys were when captured. They look like press photos,
so there would have been captions for them, and if a list of
all the officers in the unit still survives..........

One would have to do a heck of a lot of research.
    Regards,

    Steve.

I think it's simply a proud man that's seen alot of his friends die, fighting for a country he loved, and all equaling a lost cause. Pretty darn hard to pass judgement on a man with only the photo as evidence. It would be great to find out more about all of them. Thanks for sharing. I had not seen this photo before.
