Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
steve u have a nose for detecting i swear u could find the needle in the haystack without a detector great finds again !!!
Thanks Panzerjaeger44, wish I could find things that easily!
Paul, do you ever come over here and explore the Battlefields in the British Sector? Most of my research and digging has been in the 49th Division (and some 59th Staffordshire) sector East and South of Tilly.
Cheers,
Steve
Steve my diggging activities are all on the Eastern front but due to my interest in the DLI , 49 Div and 50 Div i have been to the Tilly , Lingevres , Verrierers and Rauray battle areas many times

Blimey mate, all your digging is on the Eastern Front, that must be a bind
Well if you want to do an exchange trip in the future let me know, I know the ground fairly well, can't guarantee you'll find as much as you would on the Eastern Front though!!
Would love that mate , i have been on the Tilly Battlefields with quite a few old DLI Boys who fought there in June / July 1944 so hopefully have an idea of some good locations !!!

Phot of two DLI Veterans at the DLI Memorial at St Pierre , on the left is a 9 DLI Veteran Dickie Atkinson , 90 years old !! Dickie fought at Tilly and Lingevres in June 1944 and wen all the way to Germany.
He has already fought with 9 DLI in France 1940 , the Western Desert and Sicily before landing in Normandy . The other guy si a good freind of mine ex DLI RSM whose father was in the 9 DLI Anti tank platoon at Lingevres.

Absolutely fantastic finds. Can,t tell you how jealous i am of your hunting. Would love to have a house in Normandy myself but by the time i can afford it all the stuff will have rotted away.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the photos, that Veteran looks good for 90! He is one of only a few left that fought in Dunkirk and then in Normandy as well.
Yes Dickie is still a real live wire and your right not many left who fought through out the whole war !!
