Found this really good example, one of two by the way, buried in decades of leaf mould behind a former dispersal on an old airfield a week or so ago.
One clearly dated as 1943, this one unfortunately the date is not legible.

What would this have been used to power, I wonder? A Radio, perhaps?

Possibly Wagriff, the one not pictured was a little smaller, but the same height as this one. It has been suggested they are for powering radios on another forum.
