Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
The family told me to tske it apart and display it as I liked...but I like the way the man himself has donit, it'd be ashame to alter it.....he is still alive and has written his wartime memoirs for the family

Wow thanks for posting pictures!!! Do you mind if I copy them....
Very good family relic with a known history. I visited the area a few time when I lived in Holland, a very evocative place, especially the Memorial site and the cemetery at Oosterbeek.
