We now have the information to identify the soldier woith the Norge tag from the digging in October 2008

211 EMRk SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt Norge is: SS-Strm. Martin KLEIN born 6.1.24 Liebling/Rumänien. He was in the 7./NORGE and was KIA 29.7.44 Weiwara Kinderheim, Leiche konnte nicht geborgen werden.

The 7./23 made a counter attack this day with Panzers, under the command of the Norwegian SS-Ustuf. Johan BALSTAD, in his written memoirs BALSTAD describes this action.

    regards

Yes your right Ade , the icing on the cake if that's the right way to put it. To have found him nearly 3 years ago and now to have a photo of the young lad and contact and thanks from the family make it all worth while.

No thanks to the Volksbund i might add

    Indeed!

Interesting to see he wears the Norge national armsheild, yet he was not born there.

    Cheers, Ade.

Yes i'm not sure whether that was a Regimental command decision that all personnel would wear the Norge armshield or whether the individual soldiers did it to show loyalty to their regiment.
