The soldier with this dogtag was identical with Martin KLEIN born 1924 in Liebling (Volksdeutsche), he was decleared KIA on 29.7.44 near Kinderheimhöhe and with the remark on Grablage " Leiche konnte nicht geborgen werden". The body could not be rescued and had to be left behind. Martin was an SS-Sturmmann in the 7./SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt 23 "NORGE" and was decleared KIA together with 6 other soldiers that day, all in the same company.
In the written memoirs after the norwegian Ustuf and Zug.fhr in the 1. Zug of 7./NORGE, Johan Peter BALSTAD I found information on what happened this day.
According to BALSTAD the 7. company received orders to perfor a counterattack together with elements of SS-Pz.Abt. 11 "Hermann von Salza" from the northside of Kinderheimhöhe to the southwest. The platoon of BALSTAD entered the Panther panzers and carried out the attack, with losses. They eventually ended up at the commandpost of II or III./DANMARK under Stubaf. Hans KAPPUS(?) and were engaged in close combat with the russians.
That was one end of the story, but could any family to KLEIN be found. I put an ad on the Siebenburger Sachsen website in Germany and after two weeks I got a reply from an uncle of KLEIN. The rest of the family was now living in Germany. Since then I have received several e-mails from the uncle and I hope that Martin KLEIN now will be buried as Martin KLEIN and not UNBEKANNT at the german military cemetary in Toila/Estonia.

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Interesting that we found the soviet close-combatants, even one was with broken bayo attached to the gun, they've take the german tench apoxx 100m to the side of the hill, and germans kill them with mortar fire, because their own positions was perfectly approved fo shooting. There was a direct hit to the trench whe found 7 bodies there.
Will place some pictures later
