I hope this is the correct location for this, but if not, Adrian will fix it for me.

I came across this looking on eBay, its a sign from BATTLE OF THE BULGE, its an MALMEDY ENAMELED ROAD SIGN.

Really cool sign for some one that collects these items.

I know there is usually nothing but garbage on eBay, but sometimes you can find a nice item.

I uploaded a pic from the eBay link, for faster viewing for all.

The age and rust on it seems to be ok, and not aged to fool someone.

I just wondered what era it may have come from; 10's - 20's? The 50's or 60's?

The place is still on the map today, and I don't think street signs wear out all
that often, unless there is a beautification program happening in town.
I mean, where ever it came from, it's still going to be 11Km to Malmedy.

Still, I suppose it could have actually been on a building sometime,
    somewhere, during WWII.

Exact Steve, thise is just a signe that survived the battle , it just happened to be on the right place at the wrong momment!!
Nothing to do with WWII ,execept a serious battle had been fought in the neigbourhood.
Thise signe seems to be a 1910 / 1920 periode to me, enamel road sign's and street names have been made up to the 50 'ties. And they are starting to show up again in touristic areas.

Yeah, I know absolutely nothing about these type of items, and i thought i would post the info here, in case some one in here does.

I thought it would look good on a wall behind an Waffen SS Tunic, for display purposes.

Normaly that kind of signs fetch like 10 to 20 €... exept when the buyer as a special bound with the name signe. Wich may happen in thise case. As blackheart0866 staten, it may look good on a display.

I must say I don't think this is authentic. These things are so easy to 'fake', especially if the faker chooses the right name. Has he got 'Bastogne' and 'St Vith' for sale as well ? I suspect he probably has !

Also.....why has the sign rusted on EVERYTHING but the letters? Seems a little convenient really.

I agree it may well make a nice talking point/display piece but as to it being authentic ........ I have serious doubts and don't think you will ever truly know.

    Cheers

    Hi,
IMO the sign is not authentic i only say this because if you look at the letters they are not right. It is supposed to be an enameled sign
made by a company, the letter A, the centre line is wrong also the aging on the E,D,Y I think is faulse. and as you say he has other sighns for sale, unless he has been around collecting these which i
dont think he has they would be rare signs.
    Great conversation piece though.
